Marrero man gets 30 years in 2012 stabbing death of funeral home director - The New Orleans Advocate

Alfredo Scott, 32, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and obstruction of justice before Judge Michael Mentz, of 24th Judicial District Court. Scott told detectives he met Noah Stoute in a bar on Aug. 28, 2012, and Stoute agreed to give him some money. The two went to Stoute’s apartment at Mothe Funeral Home but began arguing. Scott said he stabbed Stoute in self-defense before fleeing with Stoute’s 2005 Honda Accord, which he said he burned in Algiers. Stoute’s body wasn’t found until almost a week later because of the storm. Medical examiners initially believed he might have died of natural causes but soon found multiple stab wounds. Scott was arrested Sept. 5, 2012, while hiding in an attic near his Marrero home. He had Stoute’s cellphone with him. Scott was facing life in prison had he gone to trial and been convicted of second-degree murder, the original charge against him. He was sentenced to 20 years on the obstruction of justice charge, though that sentence will run concurrently with the 30-year term for manslaughter. Stoute, 51, was a native of Crowley who began working at Mothe in 2003.
